WordPress 2.8: coming soon to a blog near you

I dropped into WordPress trac to see the progress on 2.8, which had earlier passed by a release date, and I can’t remember the last time I saw a version with fewer open tickets as a percentage of total tickets. Apparently they are working hard to get everything in and all the known bugs flushed.

I can’t wait to see the what new goodies AutoMATTic will give us. Hopefully one of those goodies will be an increase in responsiveness. The 2.7.1 dashboard seems so sluggish. Turbo helped for a while, but then everything seemed to slow down again.

It will also be interesting to see what new features filter down to the old .COM.

Off-topic – sort of: I’ve been playing with the Joomla CMS (Content Management System) for a few days now and I’m suitably impressed. Incredibly flexible.

[UPDATE: Closed tickets are now up to 93%. I never remember seeing any version that high.]

Yes I agree that the dashboards have become sluggish. Sometimes I wonder if new features aren’t actually tested on wp.com before they are available on wp.org. Lastly, I’m interested in hearing more about your Joomla experimentation.

I’m wondering: since I categorized this with “Joomla,” will I be banned from the global tags pages?

So far my impression of Joomla is good. It is quite complex compared to WordPress, and much of the terminology is different, but it is quite slick.
