Vodpod button to insert videos into WordPress.com: a bust

[Edit: Vodpod is back up and running now so I will go ahead with the post I have planned on onecoolsite.]

I had planned on writing up a post on how to use the vodpod button for Firefox, which I as going to post at onecoolsite, to insert videos from virtually any video site into WordPress.com blogs, but after several hours of trying, and bloody imprints of my keyboard on my forehead, I’ve given up. I’ve tried in Mac with Firefox, XP with Firefox and IE7 and none of them will work. I even tried with Safari 3.1.1 with the vodpod bookmarklet. No joy.

I now have 15 different videos that I’ve found on the web, and they have all been transferred to my vodpod account, and I can view them there, but nothing I do will get them to show up on this blog. No errors, no warnings, no dancing monkeys laughing at me and crying, “you fool,” just a blank spot where the videos should be in 15 separate draft posts. I’ve read through everything I can find on the vodpod site several times and can find no answers.

Perhaps at some point between now and who knows when, the vodpod button will be working with wordpress.com, but right now, I’ll be damned if I can get it to work. Perhaps one of the three emails I sent to vodpod will come back with an answer, or a solution (not necessarily both).

    Hi Richard,

Sorry about the problems you had with the Vodpod button! It just happened that while you were trying your test, we were having a system problem that was preventing the videos from playing back correct at wordpress. The problem is now fixed, so the button should work again, and in fact any videos you may have posted over the weekend should now be working properly.

If you have any trouble in the future, feel free to drop me a line directly, scott –at– vodpod.com.

Oh my! They were having problems at vodpod with the wordpress upgrade. Both vodpod and wp.com staff failed to post that to the wordpress.com forum and you spent the day going nuts. Not good. Not good at all. :(

It’s stillnot working correctly as far as I can tell. The only thing that shows up on my blog is a link to my vodpod acct. What’s the point of that? I can just as easily put a link to the source. I don’t know if its vodpod or WP.com, but something is broken somewhere.
