It’s heeerrrrre, or more appropriately, there

WordPress 2.5 has been released and I’m watching the WordPress.org forums to see what sort of problems crop up.

ma.tt (he is the MATT in AutoMATTic) says, The improvements in 2.5 are numerous, and almost entirely a result of your feedback: multi-file uploading, one-click plugin upgrades, built-in galleries, customizable dashboard, salted passwords and cookie encryption, media library, a WYSIWYG that doesn’t mess with your code… [my emphasis]

Let’s hope that last part is truly true. I know there are thousands, if not tens of thousands out there that also hope it is true. Time will tell.

Must… resist… temptation… to… install… 2.5… Must not be… early… adopter… Must wait… to see… if… problems… show up… Must wait…

For those at the ol’ dot com I would not suggest holding your breath while waiting for it to show up. 2.5 is the single-user version of WordPress, and the equivalent MU version of WordPress (2.0 I believe) does not have a release date set yet. On top of that you have to remember that the MU version at WordPress.com is not the off-the-shelf public version of WordPress MU, but a pretty heavily customized version. I don’t expect the new version of MU to hit dot com until after the release of the public version. On the other hand WordPress is not above using the bloggers at dot com as subjects for their lab experiments.

[edit: Lorelle says, "WordPress.com users will hopefully get upgraded within the week." She is more optimistic than I am.]
