WordPress.com and 2.5

One thing that occurred to me this morning is that the new admin user interface (UI) which will come with the WordPress 2.5 upgrade may not show up at WordPress.com for a while. Why? WordPress has a ton of FAQ’s that answer typical blogger questions (assuming of course the bloggers actually search the FAQ’s for the answer) and many of those have specific instructions for the current user interface. In fact, some actually have screenshots embedded in the FAQ’s to make the instructions as clear as possible.

Now logically (then again, what does logic have to do with anything?) that means that the 2.5 UI cannot be rolled out at dot com until all of the FAQ’s have been reviewed and updated. And what about all of the forum threads that were answered with the current UI in mind? Any answer with specific references to the current UI will be worthless, or at the very least misleading.

The question of course is, does AutoMATTic have anyone that thinks about things such as updating documentation when there is a change to the UI? And if someone at AutoMATTic does think about it, will someone follow through? History would seem to indicate that FAQ’s do not get a lot of AutoMATTic thought when an upgrade renders them “uncorrect.”

[Edit: The above question about whether anyone thinks about updating documentation (Codex) also applies to self-hosted blogs using the software downloaded from WordPress.org. Has it been updated for 2.5 yet? Will it be substantially done by the time 2.5 is released?]
