2.5 coming to a (WP) dot com near you

According to The WordPress Podcast, Episode 36, WordPress 2.5 (or the MU/dot com equivalent) will be hitting the ol’ dot com “any day now” either in whole, or in pieces which will include TinyMCE 3.

I’m crossing my fingers that the WP code monkeys have cleaned up their integration and that all the p and div tag issues, and the disappearing paragraph breaks, etc., will be a thing of the past.

As with any software upgrade, I’m sure that whatever bugs have been exercised from the new version will be replaced by others, otherwise there would be no use for technical support or the forums. The user interface (UI) change alone is likely to produce a bucket load of posts all by itself, and I’ve seen a number of less-than-glowing comments by people who are using the latest beta version. My initial impression was two opposable thumbz down, but I’ll wait till I have the chance to get used to it before any official whine.

As for me, I’ll just sit back and watch. It will either be a quiet sunrise or I’ll hear the whump, whump, whump of attack helicopters in the distance and the telltale smell of napalm. Or somewhere in between.

Just in case I have my Apocalypse Now soundtrack at the ready.

Well, I won’t be an early adopter when it comes to upgrading to 2.5 on my domain. I’m barely capable of managing it as it is, let alone, coping with the aftermath. I intend to sit back and watch the show. Perhaps when 2.5.1 is released I may be ready to take it on but not before.
